New England Equal Best Winning Streak Since Tom Brady Years with Triumph Against New York Jets
First-year player Henderson has scored five touchdowns this season
New England matched their top unbeaten stretch from the Tom Brady era as they overcame division opponents the New York Jets 27-14 in the NFL
Rookie TreVeyon Henderson led the way with three touchdowns as the Patriots secured an eighth consecutive victory for the first time since iconic QB Brady's closing campaign with the team in the 2019 season
Quarterback Drake Maye accumulated 281 passing yards and a score, completing 25 of 34 passes
The triumph bolsters the New England's lead at the top of the division as they advanced to nine wins and two defeats, with the Jets at the foot after falling to two victories and eight defeats
The visitors had scored first at Gillette Stadium with quarterback Fields rushing for a five-yard touchdown to cap the Jets' initial series
But the Patriots fought back in the second quarter as the rookie ran in two short rushing scores before the running back hauled in a throw from Maye at the back of the endzone halfway into the third quarter to push the score to 21-7
"It was a key occasion for him stepping up, and it's been excellent for him to keep getting these reps," Maye commented on the rookie. "He desires to be outstanding."
Fields threw to John Metchie in the latter part of the third period to reduce the lead for the Jets but Borregales booted a two kicks in the fourth quarter as the home side wrapped up the victory
